_HISTORY: http://nier.wikia.com/wiki/Emil
_ABILITIES: Emil has the ability to turn anyone who he looks at into stone. The disadvantage of this power is that since it's involuntary, he has no choice but to wear a blindfold at all times. He also has the ability to sense Shades, the monsters of his world, although its usefulness is likely limited to his universe. His body seems to be incapable of aging, possibly due to the experiments that were done to turn him into a weapon. Otherwise, he's physically unchanged from that of any normal human being of such small stature.
_PERSONALITY: Emil has spent the vast majority of his ridiculously long life sheltered and isolated from the outside world, first by the organization that was using his body for weapons research, and later by his own choice, in order to spare people from his petrifying powers. Because of this, Emil is a fair bit naive to the workings of the world and people's hearts. His outlook is one steeped in extreme optimism, despite the abuse he and his sister, Halua, endured as donor bodies meant to bring humanity the ultimate weapon. It's perhaps his greatest strength to suffer such hardships and still ultimately be able to face the world cheerfully — during the events of the game, this is reiterated again and again, as his friends are hurt and taken from him, as people around him die and he is forced to kill, and he continues to walk forward believing things can be fixed.
It's likely this attitude that saves Kainé after Emil was forced to petrify her in order to trap a seemingly-unkillable Shade in the basement of the library in Nier's village. He spent the five years afterwards, along with Nier, searching for a way to save her. Which, eventually, he was able to do, if at the cost of his body. But even after the traumatic experience of being transformed into a moon-headed skeleton creature, he puts on a smile, tells his friends that he's fine, and continues on as before — never mind that his assurances aren't entirely true.
But his guilt over his sight, and later his strange body, would be assuaged by Kainé, Nier, and Weiss not long after they met. He might hate his eyes or his body, but as long as he's with them, he'll be okay.
Kainé showed her softer side upon meeting Emil and understanding his burdens. She was the first to tell Emil not to be ashamed of his eyes, and instilled in him the idea that his powers were there to protect rather than harm. Later, after his transformation, he would come to realize that somewhere in his mind he had been confusing Kainé with his sister. Their relationship continues on these terms, instilling their group with a sense of family.
Nier held Emil while he cried in shock over what his body had become, and was there to reassure him that they would accept him regardless of his appearance. Perhaps it's this that causes Emil to develop feelings for our erstwhile hero, or perhaps Nier's strength and kindness alone were enough to inspire those inclinations. In any case, it's Nier who gives Emil direction and a cause to put his powers to, along with his friendship and support.
The same can be said for Weiss, who often tells Emil about the old world. Although Emil just as often acts as a stabilizing force between Weiss and Kainé, due to the vitriolic nature of their relationship. Funnily enough, Weiss and Kainé's "rivalry" seems to bring out Emil's more mature side, to a point — as he ends up regarding the two of them much the way an older brother would two younger siblings (despite Kainé's cynicism and Weiss's worldliness).
Overall, Emil kept spirits lifted and morale high to the best of his ability in a hopeless world.
Emil is also known for his terrible sense of humor (his puns are as petrifying as his sight), and his almost childish frankness when the atmosphere is light. When it isn't, he comes off as reserved, serious and rather shy, although this is most likely due to his self-imposed isolation, and the length of time he's spent with only his butler for any meaningful interaction. He tends to loosen up once he's become familiar enough with the people around him. He's also capable of making quite grave decisions, and on multiple occasions he shows himself willing to make great sacrifices.
His isolation might be the first indication of his selfless nature, or perhaps it's his choice to petrify his sister after she'd gone berserk. Regardless, he continues to make these decisions — such as allowing himself to be devoured by his sister in order to use her power so that he could rescue Kainé, or becoming a decoy so that his friends could live — despite their great cost to him.
Emil also has a surprisingly large capacity for forgiveness, or at the very least understanding. He speaks with frankness of the horrible things that were done to him and his sister when they were only normal children, but he seems to hold no grudges, nor carry any apparent lasting bitterness over the treatment. Even the researcher who reached out to the two siblings as their "mother" was forgiven, despite her continued involvement in the experiments that would cause his sister to become the terrible weapon Number 6 and subsequently lose her mind. He wouldn't blame their "mother" for her part in this, nor Halua for killing her.
Likewise, when Kainé and Emil are forced to stay outside the village, Emil insists that it's fine despite the pain of being ostracized, and holds no ill-will toward the villagers. Instead, he does his best to make the most of things.
As much strength as he takes from his idealistic view on the world, it's a weakness as well, as it feeds into, and is fed into by his sheltered naivety. When surrounded by people who he can put his faith in he's at his strongest; he shows great dependability, despite a tendency to be overemotional, and an ability to do what must be done — no matter how painful — and still move forward. But when at the mercy of those who don't have his best interests at heart, he becomes extremely vulnerable, and has a tendency to stagnate.
Although it may have been this capacity for caring that saved what last scraps remained of his sister's peace of mind, it was also this naivety that led her to feel as though she needed to protect him no matter the cost. Halua's desire to spare Emil the horror of their predicament caused her to be hyper-vigilant and paranoid. In the end, the same fate would befall them regardless of their feelings, but the disadvantages of Emil's mindset are clear.
Emil is motivated by what he can do for others — for what he can do for his beloved friends — in a world that would like to chew him up and spit him out without a second thought. They're to thank for breaking his self-imposed confinement and allowing him to see himself, and his eyes, with something other than self-hatred and guilt. And when the time comes that he must sacrifice himself, he has no second thoughts — for better or worse.
_ITEMS: The only item Emil carries with him besides his clothes is his blindfold, and that will be the only other item he brings with him.

_SMUT SAMPLE: Curiosity, more than anything else, is what had gotten Emil into this position. Maybe loneliness had hand in it too, but he'd rather think of himself as someone inquisitive. Mostly, he'd rather think of himself as someone who wasn't this desperate. It was the thing to do, right? It was certainly encouraged. So, he was fine. He was even going to get money for it!
It being: him face-down, knees spread, a muscled body on top of his. Back to front, both of them plastered with sticky sweat. It made Emil flush to know that sweet scent wasn't just coming from the man on top of him, but it's hard to hold onto his self-consciousness when there are two fingers pressed inside his body; when there' a mouth on the back of his neck, wet and crooning. He sighs, the muscles in his thighs twitching. More than anything else, it's warm. Warm all over, but mostly where he's being touched. How long can they stay this way? It'd be nice if it could last as long as possible... Being pressed inside and out, being held by strong arms —
But the pressure between his legs has him squirming. The little sound that escapes his mouth must be what draws his partner's attention, because the hand that was holding his slight hips in place relocates, petting down his sides, up over his stomach and chest. He makes a different sound at the attention, throatier, and his hips jerk. His body keeps making demands before his brain can catch up with it — and the hands touching him keep anticipating them. His own hands grip at the bedsheets, impotent. He would like to touch too, but he can't find the voice to ask, and it's better if he's face-down anyway. There's less for him to worry about when his cheek is pressed into a pillow and his eyes are hidden.
A shiver spreads through his gut when the body above him unsticks himself from his back, leaving him defenseless to the cooler air around them. It's a counterpoint to the hot mouth that finds its way between his legs, sucking and licking, and the hot hand grabbing him where he's stiff and leaking between his thighs. Ah... That's it. Even the chilly bite of the air against his bare, damp back can't stop the molten heat that's spreading through his body. It leaves his mouth in muffled words, soft and dreamy.
"That feels really good..."
That's embarrassing too, isn't it? To say something like that out loud. But right now, he doesn't mind being a bit embarrassing. The warmth coalescing in his chest and stomach, apparent in the pink color of his flushed skin, spills out of him and into the hand of the person giving him this pleasure. He'd like to know his name, would like to be able to say it. As it is, he settles for murmuring a thank-you between breaths.
